Cabinetry:

Vallejo Mission - 10 - Alder - Burnt Taupe

This door provides the charming, well-worn look of an old cottage, but is built to today's high standards. Each door features multiple layers of stain and unique, hand-executed distressing. This door's stain highlights the wood grain, and the tone - while warm - is neutral enough to pair nicely with a range of colors.

Countertop:

White Carrera Marble

A classic countertop choice that works well as a surface for prep work. Naturally cool, gracefully aging, and always elegant, carrera marble introduces another bright surface that parallels the floors and walls, further increasing the light feel of the kitchen - which balances out the darker cabinetry.

Floors:

White painted wood

Painted floors are the ultimate in cottage charm. While white floors can be a challenge for upkeep, cottage style allows them to show wear, chips, and other imperfections. The objective with a white floor is to bounce light around the space. This is particularly effective with a glossy finish.

Walls:

Paint - SW6074 Spalding Gray
Tile - Hammersmith 3"x6" Subway Tile in white
White floating shelves

Subway tile is tremendously versatile, and can be interpreted as anything from traditional to ultra-modern depending on the context. In this kitchen, it will help add a dose of modern to our "Modern Cottage" style. More glossy white equals yet more light, making this space bright and happy. Above the tile, the warm gray paint echos the color of the cabinetry and builds cohesiveness. White floating shelves made by Custom Cupboards augment the enclosed upper cabinets and provide a place to store frequently-used items and interesting objects.

While some kitchens benefit from a blend of hardware, I opted to stick with one hardware family on this kitchen. These traditional pieces in antique pewter finish boast both an aged patina and modern accents.
