Enrich Your Garden With Sunflowers

A very happy sunflower against the fence in my front yard.

Are you looking for a simple way to add color and interest to your garden? Consider planting sunflowers. Tall, bright, and happy, they make a big impression. Intersperse them among other flowering plants, place next to seating areas, or even spread them randomly around your lawn. There are many varieties available; by using a mix and staggering the planting schedule, you can have blooms through much of the summer.

Did you know?
A common misconception is that sunflowers track the sun. This isn't exactly true. Mature flowers typically face east and do not move. However, the leaves and buds of young sunflowers do change orientation from east to west during the course of a day.
